In this video we are going to look at the current situation in Iran and the Middle East. I am going to cover a timeline on how we got to where we are today, we are going to look at who Soleimani was, the three main reasons there is war in the Middle East, we’re going to be looking at the geography of the Middle East and the countries relationships to each other and finally what the future might look like strategically for Iran and the United States.
There has been nonstop back and forth between the US and Iran since 2018. Some of the key dates to keep in mind:
2019:
6/20 – US drone shot down by Iranian Forces. US claimed they were flying in international air space while Iran said it was in Iranian air space
11/15 – Protesters furious with Iran rising gas prices by 200-300% Opposition said 631 people were killed while Amnesty international put the number at 300. Iran dismissed both numbers
12/27 – US contractor killed by militia Hezbollah, an Iran backed militia
12/29 – US targets militia sites as a retaliation for the attack in Kirkuk
2020:
1/3 – Us killed Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad airport
Iran vows harsh retaliation
1/8 – Iran shot dozens of missiles at two Iraqi bases that house US troops (shot at 1:20AM)
So now understanding some of the dates that lead us to where we are today, who was Soleimani?
Qasem Soleimani was the leader of the Quds force and the Islamic revolutionary guard corps, also known as the special military intelligence branch of the Iranian military. Soleimani was the 3 most powerful man in Iran who was seen upon as the next potential leader of Iran.
The instability in the middle east is centered around money, religion and nuclear power.
Iran has a few ways to retaliate to the attack, some of them include closing the Strait of Hormuz, cyber-attacks or more proxy wars and propaganda.
It will be important to see how Iran plays their hand with America after the US took out their Queen.
