Best Quotes for Father’s Day

For some, this week’s blog may serve as a reminder that Father’s Day is coming this
weekend. A recent poll found that 40% of fathers have had a child forget about Father’s Day. It doesn’t take much to let Dad know how much he means to you. A heartfelt card or a few words in a phone call to tell him will mean the world to a father.

Fathers instruct their children on life, but they also teach us by example. Kids learn
from their fathers’ every word and action.  A friend of mine once said: “More is caught
than taught in parenting.” Think about the life lessons that you got from your dad, just by watching him. If you are dad, think about the responsibility and opportunity that you have to be a real life hero to your children just by living a courageous life.

I’d like to take this space to recognize all the fathers out there that do their best on a daily basis and try to set a great example for their kids and raise them well. In today’s times, fathers are more important than ever.

These are some of my favorite quotes about fathers that have moved me and made me
laugh. I hope they touch you as well and make you think about the blessing of having, or being, a great father.

“One night a father overheard his son pray: Dear God, make me the kind of man my daddy is. Later that night the father prayed: Dear God, make me the kind of man my son
wants to be.” (This one choked me up a bit. Think about what it means to become that kind of man for your son or the son that makes his father proud).

“A wise son maketh a glad father.” – Proverbs 10:1

“Any man can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad.” – Anne Geddes

Here’s a funny one I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of: “Every mother generally hopes that her daughter will snag a better husband than she managed to do…but she’s certain that her boy will never get as great a wife as his father did.” – Anonymous

“When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the
old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.” – Mark Twain

“A new father quickly learns that his child invariably comes to the bathroom at
precisely the times when he’s in there, as if he needed company. The only way for this father to be certain of bathroom privacy is to shave at the gas station.” – Bill Cosby

“A father is a banker provided by nature.” – French Proverb

My Father used to always watch Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin movies with my sister
and me, so I had to get a quote from Mr. Lewis himself: “When I was a kid, I said to my father one afternoon, ‘Daddy, will you take me to the zoo?’ He answered, ‘If the zoo wants you, let them come and get you.'” – Jerry Lewis

And I had to finish with a quote by Billy Graham that just sums it all up: “A good
father is one of the most unsung, un-praised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.”

Feel free to share any great stories you may have of your Father. It’s a great time to recognize our great fathers: the unsung heroes.
