How to Regain Lost Business Momentum

I had a conversation earlier with someone that completely lost business momentum. He was trying to figure out how that happened. Earlier, when he was very excited about his business, he was doing very well and was on top of the world. Then all of a sudden, one day that changed, and he wondered what happened.

I told them that in my life, I’d lost great relationships, lots of money, and business momentum. I’ve lost a lot of those things and the simplest way I process this is everything in life needs attention. And if you don’t give it attention, you lose it.

Let me simplify it for you. You have momentum in your marriage. If you think the momentum is going to carry your marriage permanently forever, and you stop giving it attention, you’ll lose momentum in your marriage. If you’ve been using skin care products and you love the way your skin looks, if you stop giving it attention, you’ll have bad skin again. Or perhaps you say, “I’ve lost 17 pounds, and I like the way my body looks,” but stop giving attention to your diet and exercise routine, you’ll gain weight again.

In the same way, if you have a lot of momentum in your business and it’s doing well, and everything’s looking good, if you don’t give your business the proper attention it needs, you’re going to lose the success you have in your business. Why? Because everything in life needs attention.

Give Attention to Things that Matter

So life is all about giving attention to the things that matter. And if you don’t give your business attention, don’t be surprised when you stop getting results. And the attention you give needs to be intentional.

For instance, let’s say that your relationship with your kid isn’t doing so well, so you decide to sit down and watch a bunch of T.V. together. That’s not real, intentional attention. Intentional attention is taking your kid to the park and then going to dinner together and having an hour-long conversation. It’s taking your wife out to dinner and having a date night. You talk for an hour about the things that frustrate her. When you go to the gym, you don’t fool around for an hour. Since you have big plans for your life, your time is limited So you even if your phone has run out of batteries, you put an earpiece in your ear so people won’t talk to you. You do this because you’re intentional about taking care of your body.

Be more intentional about the attention that you give to different aspects of your life and business that are important to you and you will not lose momentum. But if you take your attention off, be prepared to lose momentum in that part of your life.
